Ellie Goulding may have scored herself a huge hit with her recent single ‘Burn’ but despite its chart success, Leona Lewis says she has no regrets about giving the track away after she recorded a demo first.
The ‘Bleeding Love’ singer, who has just released her first festive album ‘Christmas, With Love,’ has previously spoken out about recording demos for tracks which went on to become chart-toppers including Rihanna’s Calvin Harris-produced ‘We Found Love’ and Beyonce’s ‘Halo,’ penned by OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder, and jokes that she deserves credit for their success.
“Actually, I’ve recorded quite a few songs that other artists have done really well with,†Leona told PopJustice. “They should all, clearly, buy me Christmas presents,†the ‘Happy’ singer joked.
Leona, 28, went on to reveal that Tedder who also wrote ‘Burn,’ offered the song to her first but she felt it wasn’t the right sound for her so offered it away, eventually landing in the hands of Ellie.
“The thing is, if I had released ‘Burn’, I don’t think it would have gone on to do as well as Ellie’s version. It wouldn’t have worked for me. It just wouldn’t have,†Leona explained.
“It was meant to be hers, I’m glad she did it, and I think she did it really well. I really like Ellie Goulding, I’m a big fan.â€
Meanwhile, Leona recently told BANG Showbiz that she isn’t too worried about chart positions and the amount of record sales in comparison to some of her other pop rivals, claiming she doesn’t regret any of her past career moves.
“The thing is I see a lot of fans saying, ‘You should have released this. You should’ve done this,’†Leona said.
“But everything has been me doing what I want to do. Success, obviously, to most people is if you get a number one, that’s your success. For me, it’s my own journey and I’ve released the songs I’ve released because it’s what I’m feeling at the time and what I want to do.â€
