Jennifer Lopez Talks New Season of Idol, New Single

Jennifer Lopez phoned into On Air with Ryan Seacrest to talk about her return to American Idol, her new song “Same Girl,” and what she wants for Valentine’s Day.

The singer is back as a judge on Idol after taking a break following Seasons 10 and 11 and she’s having more fun than ever. Now with Keith Urban and newcomer Harry Connick Jr. on the panel,Jennifer raves of this upcoming season: “It’s fun! The fun is back. You know, we are all having a great time. It sounds like, ‘Oh, yeah right’ but it’s true … we get along and it’s a lot of fun and we’re enjoying the process.”

And now that the judges are finally getting along, how is the talent panning out? Jennifer adds: “The contestants are amazing. I’m excited to see them again. We saw them during Hollywood Week, which you guys will see in a few weeks and it’s going to be an amazing season.”

Along with sure-to-be amazing talent is Jennifer’s equally incredible wardrobe … which she reveals she decides on while she’s in hair and makeup.

Aside from taping Idol auditions, Jennifer’s also been busy working on and finalizing her next album, a snippet of which — the song “Same Girl” — she released late on Sunday night.

“This was just something I was doing for the fans, it’s not a first single or anything like that,” Jennifer shares of the tease. “I was back in New York and I always had this idea—I’m wrapping up my album right now, we’re almost finished—and over Christmas I was like, ‘I’m going to relax. I’m not going to do anything. I’m just going to chill.’ But I always had this idea to go back with this one specific song called “Same Girl” and to go back to the Bronx, to my old neighborhood, walk around and kind of like film what happens … the song is about getting back to your roots and remembering where you’re from.”

Speaking of her upcoming album, the “On the Floor” singer says the wait is almost over. “We’re just finishing it up right now and we will be dropping stuff soon,” Jennifer says.

As for her Valentine’s Day plans? “I have my Bear, we’re good,” Jennifer gushes. “We will have a nice time on Valentine’s Day, we always do.”

So what should her boyfriend, Beau ‘Casper’ Smart, get her?
“I just like something that has some thought put into it. I don’t need like big gifts. I want to feel like you put some time into it and you really thought about it … I always say it takes more time to go out and pick a card than it does to buy a quick present.”

Hear that, Beau?!

Catch Jennifer and the rest of the gang on the season 13 premiere of American Idol tomorrow, Wednesday, at 8/7c on FOX.

Jordin Sparks Blames Record Label for Album Delay

Jordin Sparks reminds us, in an interview with Huff Post Live, that it’s been almost 5 years since her last album (Her sophomore effort, 2009′s Battlefield). When the interviewer asked why it takes a label 5 years to release an album, she says, “Thank you! Ask them! How long does it take?”

The American Idol season 6 winner says that the label used her Sparkle movie as an excuse to delay the album. And then when Jordin was ready, they claimed there was no room in the schedule for her. Jordin says she’s had an album ready to go. She’s just been waiting for RCA to get on it. She called some of their excuses for delay “blowing smoke.”

But she does make a point of stressing the good things they’ve done to promote her career. “They’ve done so many amazing things for me,” says Jordin. “I don’t want this to come off like I hate them, cause I don’t!”

“I’m a little bit frustrated,” she says, “I want to put this music out for my fans.”

In the mean time, Jordin says “I think I have a really amazing door that just opened up with hopefully being able to get an album out.” She continues, “Working with a person I really, really trust, and getting it out kind of on my own. We’ll see.” Hm.
