Armin Van Buuren ft. Sophie Ellis Bextor – Not Giving Up On Love *ReUpped*
Sep 3rd
I have been listening to this song A LOT lately, nothing wrong with repeating a little musical affirmation: I’m Not Giving Up On Love! Then I came across this snarly remix, I love snarls! That grip of music that sounds like a roar from the underbelly of the track, and licks the tune like a cat, RAWR! That’s what the Dash Berlin gives you. But there’s beauty as well in the stripped down, unplugged and acoustic version of the song: short, sweet and intimate. So here are the three versions that my ear are being caressed with at the moment.
Not Giving Up On Love (Album Version)
Not Giving Up On Love (Dash Berlin Mix)
Not Giving Up On Love (Acoustic)
ps. I’m gonna throw ya another bone just cuz… Armin Van Buuren’s new album, Mirage, happens to trip the light fantastic (yeah, a reference to Ms. Bextor herserlf as to say: it’s fucking good!), and this is another tune I’m OhSoDiggin’ right now – totally unrelated – but hey, why write another post while I’m in here.

Katy Perry – Firework (Liam Keegan Mix & Radio Edit)
Sep 3rd
As the remixes have come in, there is one undenying thing I can tell ya off the bat about his treatment of the music: he keeps the integrity of the original song intact! But the magic comes in when he adds the loops of electro dance that elevate to club-spin worthiness. On FB he mentioned that this would be his last Katy Perry remix, well, at least he’s going out with a bang, a firework bang!
Thanks Liam, and even if you’re done with Katy, whatever you move onto, bring it the hell on! We love your fixin’ & mixin’!

Sirens – Stilettos (Jerome Isma-Ae’s Louboutin Mix)
Sep 3rd
I’ve always loved Jerome Isma-Ae’s mixes and have always found them in sites from abroad and/or featured in underground material. Turns out he’s from Munich and – well, well, well boys and girls, turns out I’m going to Munich in November – so if there’s anyone visiting us from there, hit me up. I need to know “Where The Wild Things Are”. Very that.
Now onto this track. This tune is just fucking delicious! Fuck the title, fuck the Louboutin reference! You don’t get any of that. You get eight savory minutes of hyper thumpin’ and beating. This is music to make you get something done – dancing need not be mentioned, it is expected!!!
Although there is no vocals on this track, I dare you to not like it!
Stilettos (Jerome Isma-Ae)
Oh, and MusicBoxMixers, if you’re in Munich, hit me up via Facebook, I must party witcha!
Christina Aguilera – Glam (K. Tavarez Cortes Private Radio Mix)
Sep 2nd
Poor Christina, she done flopped and flipped over! In my opinion it was a very forgettable album (furthermore, we already know she can blow, must she oversing every fucking song, really?). But leave things in the hands of remixers and well, they can save a tune or two by adding their own elements to it. In this case, leave it to a Brazilian to add some drums. I got some stuff for y’all tomorrow. Sorry I’ve been busy, but I thought after Shine I’d take a small break and start preparing for the follow up which is coming in two weeks, I promise nothing less than more greatness! It will be my birthday music after all. In the meantime, deliver yourself through some drums!
Glam (K. Tavarez Cortes Private Radio Mix)
ps. I got a new mix by Liam Keegan for Katy Perry’s Fireworks – perfection! And a few mixes from Little Ray that I’m really diggin’… stay tuned.

Here’s the twisted sister of Shine: DARKESTAR! This is a mix concocted out of sheer brilliance and dark genius. I have had it on replay ever since it got to me. First I played it to see how these mashups were blended together, and I was blown away. Hello, really: it begins with Robyn’s Don’t Fucking Tell Me What To Do blended with Madonna’s Lucky Star and we continue that ride with Blondie, Deee-Lite, Eurythmics, Kylie Minogue, Gaga – the list speaks for itself. Actually, the sounds blast for themselves! It’s wicked, it’s sharp, and it’s OhSoDance! This is what you would be listening to if you went to an afterhours club. And for me personally, this is what I’ve been listening to non-stop for the last three days. Cuz I do keep dancing on my own! It’s a trip, a cosmic journey into electro dance sounds that grab ya, toss ya, tickle your inner ear and ping your brain for fun, for kicks and for your steppin’ or simply for your listenin’! Take my word, it’s something you need to hear and play!
1.- Don’t F***ing Tell Me What Do / Lucky Star (Robyn / Madonna)
2.- ADD SUV (Uffie)
3.- Body Motion / Die Another Day / Out (Way Out West / Madonna / Ellen Allien)
4.- Cruel Intentions / Call Me (Simian Mobile Disco / Blondie)
5.- Surrender / Call Me (Way Out West / Deee-Lite)
6.- Dancing On My Own / Who’s That Girl (Robyn / Eurythmics)
7.- Runaway / Flashy Flashy (Grum / Ellen Allien)
8.- Up and Down (Pet Shop Boys)
9.- Donut / Closer (MANDY / Kylie Minogue)

11.- Freak / Up In Flames (Estelle / Satoshi Tomiie)

14.- Rocket (Goldfrapp)
15.- Mistake (Moby)

Cee-Lo – F*ck You
Aug 23rd
Now this here is simply fucking brilliant! After their first and brightest hit and subsequent fade into obscurity, Crazy (Gnarls Barkley), in comes this special treat and new tribute to the slogan and motto of the wronged by Cee-lo. Have you ever heard a happier Fuck You? (Last one I heard was Lily Allen’s and though I loved that tune as well, this by far wins the race – and yes, we’re practicing this already for drunken karaoke! Stay tuned).
F*CK YOU
Travie McCoy ft. Bruno Mars – Billionaire (Liam Keegan Remix & Radio Edit)
Aug 23rd
Liam Keegan brings us another remix that was missing in action. The original tune is actually quite fun but because that almost anything and everything sounds better mixed, I had been searching for a good mix to my disappointment, finding none. Until now! Again capitalizing on filling in a gap that no one had touched, he gets his name and his sound out there and serves us an electro fix to bring this track into the wonders of our mixed-up world. That touch he gave to Em & Ri’s track where he was able to keep the punchiness of the original giving it the life we sought, he definitely injects this in the same way with thump and bounce to the ounce. Thanks Liam! Keep ‘em coming.

Eminem & Rihanna – Love The Way You Lie (Liam Keegan Remix & Radio Edit)
Aug 19th
Liam Keegan delivers again! I posted a sample of that kick ass remix he cooked up for this serious tune that’s inundated the radio waves and clubs alike. Like I mentioned before all other mixes have only featured Rihanna’s vocals - which technically makes those dubs – and although Rihanna’s purr on this joint is magic, it’s Em’s rhyme-licking that resonates with the listeners. Keegan gives it the electro treatment and we have ourselves a dance tune that gets your attention as you move to it.

Iyaz – So Big (Liam Keegan Radio Edit & Club Mix)
Aug 17th
This morning I got the nice surprising of receiving in my inbox these mixes from Liam Keegan himself. If you sort backwards in our site you’ll find the last two mixes we posted of his Katy Perry reworks: California Girls (Liam Keegan’s Electro Mix) and Teenage Dream (which we love!). He’s remixed: Kelis’ Acapella, Timbaland & Justin’s Carry Out, LMFAO’s La La La – all of which you must listen to!
Here he gives us a refix of Iyaz’s So Big and he does justice to the dance! It definitely needed the thump and hump feel! Watch out for Liam Keegan, this is a name you’ll be seeing a lot of. His mixes are definitely about THE BEAT! And we’re feeling that!

Did I tell ya he’s good or what? From what I read on his page, this is coming out tomorrow. I have dug and dug for a mix that integrates Em’s verses in it. Everyone has just used Rihanna’s vocals and skipped the rhyme-licking, which honestly I NEED! She gives ya the softness and he packs the punch, and in this mix he’s a bit sped up which makes his verse sound like they’re spit in one breath, fast like a thunderous slam! We await anxiously!
Susan Esthera – I’m A Freak Bitch Finally (Lady Gaga vs. Cece Peniston Mashup)
Aug 17th
FUCKING MAGIC! Over the weekend I was talking to a friend about those tracks that are just classic in dance and simply won’t go away – as is the case with Cece Peniston’s Finally. Here, a new friend of ours, DJ Susan Esthera mashes it with that Gaga song that didn’t make it as a single but should’ve: Dance In The Dark! It’s heavy on synths and drum-driven – almost tribal with electro riffs all over the place and we love the marriage! Thank you Susan!

Happy Birthday Madonna!

I’m sure everyone has their own choice of favorite of Ms. M’s vid collection. It is because of M that we have all these strong female performance artists today and why everyone is being compared to her. When she was making her statements back in the 90s, mainstream media was not as accepting of her. It was through the power of her many reinventions that she was able to maintain her grip on pop music and continue to make statements that were relevant and even transcendental. There was a time when I came on board MusicBoxMix when one of the co-founders of the site, who is a big Madonna fan, would post nothing but every and any imaginable mix of hers and this almost looked like a shrine. Although we’ve come far from those days, we have to pay tribute to the artist who in one way or another influenced almost every female performer that came after her. I leave you with my favorite live performance of hers. I love how cheesy and disco it is, but I also loved how it was edited: magic – and how this was the original recording of the song!
Happy Birthday Madonna!
Miles Away (Peter Rauhofer Rework Pt. 3 – Alternate)
Alan Connor – Sun Went Down (Beltek Remix)
Aug 12th
As the sound of dance music evolves and has been crossing over into every genre of what’s played on air and what we’re looking for to listen to, the world of dance has seemingly evolved within itself by creating hybrids and incorporating elements of each other into new work. Such is the case with Beltek’s mix of Connor’s Sun Went Down. A little bit of techno, a little bit of trance and a peel of progressive for garnish and this tune can either give ya flashbacks and throw ya flashing forward. Either way, it makes you listen and definitely should be on your playlist.
Sun Went Down (Beltek Remix)
Erick Morillo & Eddie Thoneick feat. Shawnee Taylor – Live Your Life Part 3 (DJ Chuckie Mix)
Aug 12th
This is the third incarnation of this tune and it still gives me the urge to dance (putting my drink down first of course – I’m done taking them to dancefloor to then spill ‘em all over myself and others). Back to the tune: DJ Chuckie keeps the house undertones throws in some electro, puts it in a shaker, gives it a few jerks and serves it to ya. While Ms. Taylor tells you what you should know: Live your life, be free! (My side note: whoever is fucking witcha: boss, boyfriend/girlfriend, sister/brother – flip them a birdie as you push start to this tune – then throw your hands up and dance yourself into oblivion!)

Robyn – Hang With Me (Kaiserdisco Remix)

Oh we love this lil bad-ass chic! She serves it to you on a platter and then some. And yes, that which she is giving you right there is called a SilentFuckerStare (see what I mean here)! This dopeness of a song first came to me via Body Talk Pt. 1 in its acoustic form, which I used in my compilation I’m In Here (snag that now – for those who love good ballads).
